The Sunday Scoop

My sister recently moved back to Toronto from Victoria, with all of her magnificent wardrobe.  When she got here, she opened up her luggage and started giving stuff away, and I was the lucky beneficiary!

I scored this casual sundress, an unstructured, sleeveless style that I tend to wear more than any other in the summertime.  What a scoop!

Don’t you think it’s perfect for a Sunday afternoon, whether poolside, malling, the farmer’s market or wherever?

Staying cool!

Staying cool!

I like this delicate, feminine silver jewelry set with the dress because of its feminine details.  This jewelry has special meaning because it was made especially for me by my aunt.

Classic leather sandals don’t compete with the casual look of the dress.

Tip:  lighter-coloured neutral leather sandals maintain an unbroken line, making your legs look longer than contrasting coloured sandals.

Dress:  Fun2 Fun

Shoes:  Aldo

Bracelet and necklace:  handmade custom pieces

What’s your favourite hot summer Sunday look?

Spring Classics for Transitional Weather

Every spring, the red, white and navy of nautical style reappears in the world of fashion just as surely as daffodils reappear in the garden.  This year, another trend amps up the look: bold stripes.  The stripey trend is all over the fashion bibles, in bold black and white including vertical stripes on both loose-flowing pants and skinny jeans.  At the same time, navy and white or off-white vertical striped pants are a casual version of the trend that blends perfectly with nautical style.

I combined my new navy-striped jeans with this navy nautical shirt from Joe Fresh for this look to wear to the mall with my friend.

A well-known advantage of vertical stripes is that they give the illusion of being slimmer, so wearing them on your bottom half is good for almost everybody!

On this warm, late winter day, with snow melting and sun shining, this outfit made me feel like spring is really coming!

So where is my red?

All classic and no glitz would make for a dull outfit.

(Going) Out-Skirts and The Fringes

Yesterday I went to dinner at the home of family friends.  It was another holiday celebration-type event, with exquisite food but open to a range of dressed-up casual.

Naturally, I took this as an opportunity to wear an outfit that I had not yet had a chance to test drive!

Fantastic trends I love in this combo:  electric blue, black and white houndstooth, fringey shirts, leather-trimmed items.  I kept this outfit unified by choosing my all-silver cross so as not to take away from the black and blues, and I added the crystal bracelet set from The Bay for the same reason.

What I’m Wearing

Necklace: Forever XXI

Crystal bracelets:  The Bay

Shirt: My mom’s design

Skirt: Dot’s, Victoria B.C.

Shoes: Lindsay Phillips from Town Shoes

Houndstooth Purse:  Nine West

Alpaca Scarf:  Sentaler

I wanted to be dressed-up enough to show the hosts I appreciated being a part of their dinner party, respectable enough to hang out with conservative, older professionals and still dress my age (YOUNG!!) at the same time!  Do you think I hit the mark?  Please share how YOU would handle these dressing demands by commenting below.
